Things To Do On A Safari To Uganda

April 18, 2016by admin0 comments

Located in East Africa, Uganda is the leading tourism destination that attracts tourists from different parts of the world. Also termed as a landlocked country, this East African country boosts as one of the few countries where a person can go and have a life changing experience especially when next to real nature of Africa. Although Uganda is known for having the best tourism fraternities, a few people especially foreigners don’t really know what exactly makes this pearl of Africa so unique that almost everyone wishes to go for a safari. Some of these interesting activities include;-

Gorilla tracking

This is the leading attraction in Uganda. With less than 900 mountain gorillas left in the world, Uganda has the highest number of these primates with a total of about 450 gorillas. These are mainly found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. Spending some quality time with the gorillas in their natural habitats is a dream come true and trust me, you will always want more of a gorilla tracking safari Uganda. One thing a tourists should put in mind is that he/she should obtain a gorilla trekking permit before allowed to view the primates.

Wildlife Tours

Game drives through some of Uganda’s top national pearl enables a visitors to view different wild animals including;- lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, kobs, wild pigs, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, rhinos and many more. These can easily be viewed in Kidepo Valley NP, Lake Mburo National Park, Murchison and Queen Elizabeth National Parks. A wildlife safari to Uganda is one of the most exciting tours one will ever have as it comes with different nature wonders on top of wildlife encounters. A visitor experiences a breathtaking atmosphere while in the parks viewing the different mammal species.

Primates Walk {Chimpanzee Tracking}

This activity takes place in the Kibale Forest National Parark. The most favorite of Kibale’s walks embarks on from the Kanyanchu Visitor center at 08.00 & 15.00 and lasts 2 to 3 hours. Chimpanzee are the most sought after primate by visitors, but you should look out for the black & white colobus, red tailed monkey, vervet monkey or the grey cheeked mangabey. Your guides will be able to show you pittas & different bird species and will give details of the tradit of the plant species within the forest. This walk is for 6 people in a group. Advance booking is all-important especially during peak sea.

Birding Tours

Uganda, is also known as Africa’s premier birding destination with the list of birds found in the country totaling 1 000. Many of these birds live only in these tropical forests with rare sightings being described as “mythical” while it is believed that some of the birds living in the remote forests of Uganda may not even be classified as of yet. These Include Shoebill, Green-breasted Pitta, African Green Broadbill, Great Blue Turaco, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, Standard-winged Nightjar,  Short-tailed Warbler, Doherty’s Bushshrike, Bar-tailed Trogon, Black-breasted Barbet, Monarch flycatchers and so many others.

Cultural Tours

Culture is undoubtedly Africa’s best tourism attraction and being the fact that Uganda has over 45 ethnic tribes, it’s one of the best destination when it comes to cultural exploration. A walk through some of the villages in the country gives a visitor a chance to meet and interact with some of the elders from different cultural background. Many people especially foreigners (whites) here about the black people and where they came from but have never had a chance of exploring their origin. A cultural safari to Uganda gives them a chance to find the truth by themselves and also have a remarkable experience in Africa.

Other tourism activities one can think of while planning for a trip to Uganda include; – Chimpanzee trekking, hiking adventure, nature walks, city tours, boat rides, spot fishing and more.
