Hoima District is situated in the western region of Uganda, bordered by Buliisa District in the north, Masindi District to the northeast, Kyankwanzi District in the east, Kibaale District to the south, Ntoroko District to the southwest and the Democratic Republic of Congo across Lake Albert to the west.
Agriculture with emphasis on food crops is the backbone of the Hoima District economy. Crops grown include; Sorghum, maize, millet, peas, groundnuts, sweet potatoes, beans, cotton, tea, cabbages. Livestock production is also practiced at small scale.
Fishing on Lake Albert employs several hundred people. The recent discovery of petroleum in the district is increasingly attracting people from the district in the many activities that the industry entails.

Getting There:
The newly sealed Kampala – Hoima Road with 210km from Kampala is the direct route to Hoima Town, approximately 2.5 hours journey.
Alternatively, Hoima can be reached Via Masindi District from Kampala,
The Post Bus runs from Kampala to Hoima via Masindi and charges Ush 12,000. Other Bus companies operate the Kampala – Hoima route, these include; Link Bus & Hoima Coaches which station at the Baganda Bus Park and they charge Ush 10,000 with exception during the festive season when bus fares are hiked.
Mini-buses taxis also run from Kampala – Hoima on regular intervals and also other taxis connect Masindi to Hoima. There is limited transport options between Fort-Portal & Hoima meaning you have not to miss bus that leaves 8:00am that leaves in either direction.
