Mukono District is situated 20kms East of Kampala, the Capital city of Uganda. Mukono district is bordered by Kayunga District to the north, Buikwe District in the East, the Republic of Tanzania to the south, Kalangala District to the southwest, Wakiso District and Kira Town to the west.
This Historical District used to comprise of strong Buganda Kingdom counties of Kyaggwe, Bugerere and Buvuma, not until December 2000 when Bugerere County was constituted into Kayunga District. Later in July 2010, Buvuma was made an independent district. The remaining mainland Kyaggwe was also partitioned with the eastern portion becoming Buikwe District.

Mabira Forest which is famous for forest walks, Picnics, cycling trails, over 100 Species of moths and 300 bird species. Mabira forest is also popular for its rich on Flora & Fauna
Lake Victoria – Afica’s largest lake and second largest fresh-water lake in the world
Sezibwa River is believed by Buganda legend to have been born by one ‘Nakangu Tibatesa’ the wife of ‘Nsubuga Sebwaato’ in Kawuna, Ngongwe, around the time of the Christian biblical prophet Isaiah. The river flows into Lake Kyoga. Sezibwa falls offers beautiful scenery for tourists and nature lovers.The site also has a natural forest reserve which is popular for forest trails and nature walks, bird watching with over 100 bird species and wildlife

Getting There:
Mini-Bus taxis run between Kampala – Mukono and these are found in both the Old & New taxi park. They charge between Ush 1,500 to Ush 2,000. City Buses, a private bus company which stations at Kampala Road next to the City Square also operates the Mukono – Kampala route.
